Windows update won't download or install updates.

I have a brand new computer, that came with Windows 7 installed.  I have been unable to download Windows updates, or updates for other applications such as Office 2010.  I've tried at different times for the last three weeks.  I can review and select updates,

but when I try to download, it just sits at 0% for hours on end. I had installed F-Secure, and thought this might be the source of the problem, but even when I unload F-Secure the problem persists.
