Guest Donny Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I'm unable to telnet to the filesharing ports 139 and 445 on my windows 2003 server. If I logon locally onto the server and telnet to that port, I'm still unable to. Netstat -an also doesn't show that it's open. I tried to enable Netbios of TCP/IP on the network settings but was still unable to telnet to the ports. Is there a service which I have to start manually or something which I have to install? What needs to be done for these ports to be open on the server?
Guest Jabez Gan [MVP] Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Re: Unable to telnet to port 139 and 445 Do you have File Server role setup/installed on the Server? It should by default auto open by itself, provided that you install the file Server role. You can also open up RRAS, select NAT, open up the properties of your LAN, and open the ports under Service tab. :) -- Jabez Gan Microsoft MVP: Windows Server - File Storage "Donny" <donny@joho.com> wrote in message news:FC40987A-FBC9-482B-94A4-4DB2527206CC@microsoft.com... > I'm unable to telnet to the filesharing ports 139 and 445 on my windows > 2003 > server. Guest Donny Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 RE: Unable to telnet to port 139 and 445 Could you please explain to me in detail step by step how to install the file server role? Also is there any other options? "Donny" wrote: > I'm unable to telnet to the filesharing ports 139 and 445 on my windows 2003 > server. Guest Jabez Gan [MVP] Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Re: Unable to telnet to port 139 and 445 Hey Donny, What version of WIndows Server are you using? SBS or Standard or Enterprise? If you are on WinServer SBS 03, pull up Server Manager and click Add Role. -- Jabez Gan Microsoft MVP: Windows Server - File Storage "Donny" <donny@joho.com> wrote in message news:DF3FCACA-B014-404A-9F6F-579E8A48D291@microsoft.com... > Could you please explain to me in detail step by step how to install the > file > server role? > > Also is there any other options? > > "Donny" wrote: > >> I'm unable to telnet to the filesharing ports 139 and 445 on my windows >> 2003 >> server.
