hi there,

i got a problem thats got me pulling my hair out, nearly. I have a Mesh elite Core2duo 1.86Ghz 2 GB RAM running Windows Vista Home Premium First of all the DVD rewriter fitted in to the PC a Sony g170A sata device stopped playing dvds films and games So I added a second New LG dvd setting this one to master and setting the sony to slave, No Change I then changed the IDe cable for a brand new one this brought about a change and the PC refused to recognise either one so I retuned back to the original one but still had no drives.

When you hard boot the PC both DVD drives are recognised on the black boot up screen Once windows kicks in the drives are not there. AHhha thought I and got an external DVD drive a Sony DRX-800UL and this failed to install the driver. so I went and had a look at the Device Manager all three drives are there with a yellow trianglewith a ! in it when you right click it says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" and when you chck for solutions it just says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

This has been driving me nuts for a while now and the big hammer waits.

Try uninstalling them in Device Manager Malkivich, reboot and let windows "find" them again.

Forgot to mention I've tried that still no joy I'm thinking of reinstalling the windows hoping that a clean slate will do the job, but if there is an easier way i am very willing to rty anything as th reinstall is a last resort.

The internal drives should be plug and play and auto detected. This leads me to think that they are not hooked up properly. For instance look at what sony says about their optical drives.

Since the old drive wasn't working anyway remove all devices from device manager and turn off the computer. Install just the new one and boot up and it should be detected.
