XP Machine no longer does automatic updates

XP Pro Version 2002

SP 3

Pentium 4 3.2 GHz

2 GB RAM

 

Recently had a Trojan, eliminated by MSE.  Still cannot get automatic updates to work.  Nor can I delete MixiDJ from IE.  And somewhere in there I got an indexing magnifying glass/app that I never had before.  Just now tried Microsoft Security Scanner,

it found nothing.  Help!
