Guest Martin Mullan Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 I have bought a new server with 2x disks which i have setup as raid 1 and created 2 partions on. Partition 1 is for windows 2003 and partition 2 ia for AD. Now I know that the partitioning side of things is correct but am i ok with both of them being on 1 raid disk, should i actually be using 2x seperate raid 1 disk arrays for each partition? -- Martin Newbie
Guest Anthony Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Re: New DC Installation partitioning recommendations Martin, Having two drives on one array gives you some isolation between OS and data so if, for example, you were to fill drive 2, it would not affect the operation of the OS. Having drives on two different arrays gives you performance benefits, as the two drives can be written at once. This helps in a high performance environment, where you can put the pagefile, SQL log files, etc onto a dedicated array. In my opinion it is a good idea to partition your primary array into two separate drives, one for the OS and one for data, as it gives you some isolation and does not waste the current standard disk drives. I don't personally see much gain from putting the AD database files on another drive, but I can see that others might. If you can afford it or require it, a separate mirrored array for logs etc is nice to have! Hope that helps, Anthony, http://www.airdesk.com "Martin Mullan" <MartinMullan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E5D87CF7-42D9-4AEF-A2E0-13825DF10E21@microsoft.com... >I have bought a new server with 2x disks which i have setup as raid 1 and > created 2 partions on.
