Disappearing emails

I have recently purchased a new laptop with windows 8 operating system.  I have setup 2 emails through Outlook - one of these email boxes seems to work fine, however the other one periodically loses the entire contents.  The only difference that I can

tell between these email boxes is that the one that doesn't have problems operates through a POP3 server, the problem one will only work with IMAP server.  Any solution to this??
