vista fails to boot normal will boot in safe mode

Vista Ultimate x64.  Intel I7.  When I boot in safe mode (minimal), the computer will start up ok,  When I boot "Normal" it fails to load fully.  The status bar freezes.  Using MSConfig to disable all start up and all the services it will let me, and it

still freezes during normal boot.

 

Automatic Startup Recovery believes everything is ok.

Safe mode with networking freezes as well.
