recovered xp ( fully updated ) won't finish installation of HP officejet j6480 software

The Wireless network test report from the printer installation shows everything should be good, however, installation of the officejet software never finishes siaying it can't wirelessly detect the printer. The router and printer test report are in agreement.

i didn't use to have Avast! anti-virus when this same problem  ( pc recovery et al. ) happened 9 months ago.

My Fios Actiontec router shows the printer on it's wirless network - but it just won't print!
