Windows 7 installed, Windows 3 installed later

Windows 7 was installed on my system some time ago, then "knowledgeable" teenage granddaughter came along and installed Windows 3.  I am having more and more problems now accessing documents.  I had converted all documents over to Windows 7, but it appears

the system is going through both programs before I reach the document needed.  I just read about a "Compatibility" Windows program - could that help me or am I just lost in no man's land now?
