Can I share the product key for my windows?

I have used the product key from my laptop's windows for my desktop and it says that it isn't genuine even though I did buy it... will I have to buy a whole new copy of windows? 

If not, is there any way I can transfer the legitimacy of the windows to my desktop? i.e disable, etc windows licence on my laptop and transfer the licence to my desktop?
