Have had major computer problems for a few weeks - very slow, redirecting onto various sites etc. Looked on here and followed advise on treating - using ATF, SAS, Malbytes, ESET. THis found Adware and a few trojans. Removed and rebooted. Ran SAS again and they are back, computer still run slow and the popups are still appearing.

A feature of this is everytime I close down I get the message iexplore.exe is running etc with the end now option, if I let it run it just stops and I have to press the end now. Another warning then appears referring to a file GLUEGL-1.exe.

I have previously tried downloading IE8 then uninstalling IE. Even after that and using Firefox I still got the IE popups and the reference to iexplore.

Help!!!

Hello Rolin

Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help

Did you try to uninstall any programs that you think may have been causing problems before running those tools?

Let's just see what is running on the system by posting a HJT log.

Follow the instructions below please.

Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and click on Download Hijack This Installer and save it to your desktop.

  • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis.
  • By default it will install to C:Program FilesTrend MicroHijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log by copying and pasting in your next reply.

Notes:

Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.

Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should.

Hi Rolling;

I noticed referrences to COMODO and Zonealarm and antivir in your log. Exactly what AV and firewalls do you have? You should never use two AV's or two firewalls at the same time.

Do you have a program called Glue Great or IMVU chat installed? This might be the cause of your error. I would uninstall if so.

I would also uninstall AskBar and Megaupload.

Hi Randy

I was halfway thro changing from ZA to Comodo (after seeing it recommended on here) I have since uninstalled ZA. The only AV I have is Avira. Dont know what Great Glue might be but like IMVU its probably associated with my daughters computer use. Think I tried to uninstall Askbar before and it would not let me. Is there any other way of removing without using the removal tool in Control Panel.

Thanks

Ok these are the most likely programs that are suspect.

Askbar

IMVU

and

Megaupload

Use add/remove in control panel to get rid of these and run the scans again.

I'm unsure by your post if you are having trouble removing these via that method. Can you explain please.

I see a reference to Vista in the log. Do you have any idea why this is?

Removed megaupload the firewall kept warning me the fu_exe was trying to access various things dont know if that is ok or not but it has removed the program

Took off Askbar but there is another one that I think is an install program when I try to remove this I get error askbar.dll specified module could not be found.

Cant see IMVU on the list of programs

THe Vista eference I think is something to do with one of the security programs I recently installed.

Dont know if this is significant but I notice that the entry for IE7 doesnt give me the option to remove

A couple of brief question that may clear things up.

Did you remove the askbar through control panel? If so I would suggest that you go into search and see if it lists any remaining askbar files and delete them (being very careful not to read too quickly and remove taskbar files)

I am curious about the "fu_exe" file. Is that exactly how it appeared or was there anything more such as "script fu.exe"

Yes fairly sure thats how Comodo listed it (as an unknown program) although I think script fu.exe was mentioned as well. It was on the lines of this could be ligit is fu.exe a trusted program etc but malware also does this - anyway it was the only way I could get the uninstall to proceed.

Yes I used control panel.

Another point when I closed down Comodo flagged up an unrecognised program Glue Great.exe was trying to access iexplore.exe.

Empty the recycle bin and run a search for Askbar again, get back to us with what it finds.

What security program did you recently install with regard to the Vista aspect?

There won't be an entry to remove IE7 it's an intrinsic windows program.

I doubt very much that the Secunia program has anything to do with Vista being there, can you tell us why it is please.

This is the entry we speak of and has nothing to do with Comodo.

C:\Documents and Settings\Martin Carrell\Desktop\CIS_Setup_3.5.55810.432_XP_Vista_x 32.exe

This looks like a Vista executable setup parked on your desktop.

Couple of other things my AV (Avira) is listed as inactive and it wont let me update (just get an error). When I rebooted Comodo came up with (I couldnt get all the detail because it disappeared) iexplorer could not be recognised it is about to modify the content of c:\doc and settings\allusers\app data\two dogs....\Great Glue...

Looked up great glue.exe and it looks like its malware. Its located in a folder Does Dog Two City which doesnt apper to relate to anything on the computer . Could the answer not be just to delete this??

Found this on the web when i looked up Great Glue.exe:

Lop.com random filename processes. The appear in the application data folder, or other folders such as System, System32 and Program Files. Each has a random file name made up of random words.

Adware applications, toolbars and browser extensions may serve advertisements even while you are not surfing the Internet.

This application may serve various types of advertising, not limited to pop-up ads.

Seems to fit the description only problem it wont let me delete it!!!!!

It's a long shot but try running SAS and Malwarebytes again but this time do it in Safemode.

Think I've solved it. Downloaded a Lop.com uninstaller. It removed that strange directory and file plus numerous others. Computer seems to be running ok. Ran SAS last night and it found nothing.

That's fantastic. Can you share the link with us? For that matter keep coming back to share more with us.

TITLESAFE.EXE - Adware.Lop.Process

Here is the link to the research site which also includes a link to lop.com which is where I got the uninstaller. Note I have since installed sitehound and it blocks the lop.com site as a risk. However the download worked and there doesnt appear to be any after effect. I've run both SAS and ESET and nothing is found.

Hi R S, I followed your link, the "File Research Center" is safe. However, the link to Lop . co.m showed as red on McAffee site advisor and my own security blocked the site. You may well have had a result, but in these circumstances we cannot recommend that site, Lop . c.om to others in any way. The Research Center basically said the same thing, and gives a long list of malware associated with it.

Next comes a little of what I have found about "File Research Center" This a free service provided by the makers of SuperAdblocker. Of which I know little, others on here may know more, but on the surface they look to be OK. Their file search and recognition service could be a godsend to any one trying to get to the bottom of some stubborn malware, so I can suggest this one to be looked into further for giving it the OK.

Rather than edit the above, I can now say we can recommend the "File research Center" It comes from some now highly regarded people who are also at the centre of SuperAntiSpyware. You have a suspicious file on your system? they will probably know exactly what it is, and whether it is safe or not.
