Can't update windows.

I ran a diagnostic on my laptop and it showed some problems, so I tried to update windows.  I got a message that windows couldn't update because the service wasn't available and a restart of the computer could fix the problem.  That didn't work.  What

can I do to get the updates to turn back on?
