cd drive not working

i have a toshiba laptop sat pro a210, about 8 months old.

it's running vista home premium, (sp1), has 120gb hdd, 2gb ram and amd athlon 1.8 ghz.

recently the dvd drive stopped working and what i mean is the drive is not shown in my computer.

when i call up device manager, the drive is there showing the yellow triangle and exclamation mark.

i have tried several times to update driver, uninstall and reinstall the drive.

in properties, general, device status is displayed:

 

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

 

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

 

clicking on check for solutions brings no answers either.

 

i also notice there are 2 other items with similar yellow triangled markers - "microsoft 6to4 adapter" and a second similar device numbered two.

 

hopefully i've provided enough information that someone may offer help.:)

Try this:

 

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

 

2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

 

3. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK .

 

4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

5. On the Edit menu, click Delete , and then click OK .

 

6. Quit Registry Editor. NOTE : After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.

 

7. : After you remove the Restart your computer.

when i follow your instruction exactly i am unable to delete this. it says i can't delete it.

also i'm a little unsure of what an upper filter and lower filter is. maybe this is the problem. how can i be sure i'm on the upper and lower filters:confused:

They will say exactly that either upper filter of lower filter.

 

Once you locate the proper key and follow Wolfey's direction you will see the value in the larger window to the right. It is these specific values that need to be deleted. Just delete the 2 of them that he suggested and do it one at a time.

cheers to you both. i have found and deleted them, and the drive is now recognized.

i guess was nervous in the registry and did not look at the right hand pane.

later i will try my recording software and reinstall if necessary.
