This will replace "damaged" Windows XP files and should keep all your files intact. This is usually known as a "repair reinstall" and may retain the "infection." 2) Clean install. This will remove the installed version of XP and re-install XP. You loose all files and settings. 3) Recovery CD. Each PC manufacturer develops there own recovery system and depending on the option, the recovery cd may do a "clear"/"restore" of XP and/or "repair" recovery. As with any of these methods, BACK UP yor files!!! It is never guarrantied the your files will ever be safe from "erasure" during any of the re-install methods.
