After having problems with my computer on startup, I finally decided to try using my Windows XP CD to repair my system files; however, the CD seemed to partically reinstall some older files. Examples: the browser I was using was Internet Explorer 8, I was

using Windows XP Service Pack 2. After using the Windows XP disk to try an recover the system files and stablize my system, my computer was reverted to IE 6 and Windows XP Service Pack 2 was missing altogether. As, I had ordered this Windows Sp2 disk from

Microsoft, (at their urgering), on a CD some years ago, I reinstalled it from my original disk. Upon attempting to solve the problem with my computer monitor constantly going into engery saving mode as the system was booting up, it seems that I inadvertently

deleted or otherwise destroyed files Windows Update needs to verify the authenticity of my computer software! Any help anyone can offer with this issue will be most appreciated!
