how can i choose a specific date to restore my system to? The create a system restore point does no

I need to restore my system to an earlier date before which I know everything was operating smoothly.  The option to create a system restore point does not allow for input of a specific date in the past.  Can I do this?  I have Windows 7 Home Premium on

a Dell Inspiron laptop.
