Guest PT Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I note that during long boot-ups of WinXP home, the Task Manager shows that the delay is caused by a long running javaw.exe. Browsing the Web, I find that this is a common complaint. But I can't find a definitive answer to these questions: 1. What does javaw.exe do? 2. What would be the likely downside to removing or temporarily renaming it? 3. Would step 2 result in better boot-up time and/or performance? -- PT

Guest PA Bear Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Re: javaw.exe - info needed Then reply to that thread or begin a new one. JAVAW.EXE is not a Windows file. -- ~PA Bear PT wrote: > I had prviously Googled and reasd this thread. Guest Singapore Web Design Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Re: javaw.exe - info needed Hello, Javaw.exe is used to run a Java program. Do you use Azureus? You can disable it from starting up by using MSCONFIG (Start > run > msconfig > startup) -- Singapore Web Design http://www.bootstrike.com/Webdesign/ Singapore Web Hosting http://www.bootstrike.com/WinXP/faq.html Windows XP FAQ "PT" <xyz@xyz.com> wrote in message news:%23wMEZFvBIHA.748@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... >I note that during long boot-ups of WinXP home, the Task Manager shows that >the delay is caused by a long running javaw.exe. > > Browsing the Web, I find that this is a common complaint. Guest Poprivet Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Re: javaw.exe - info needed Actually, you may find "javaw.exe" floating around in multiple folders, with varying date stamps. If/when you work with them, be certain you have the right one. On my system here I have 4 of them. Do you have an HP printer? If so, it's often the ToolBox features and javaw.exe in that folder causing the "problems" I learned from my research. I can't recall enough details to explain it at all, but some patient searching for javaw.exe will bring up relevant hits. I had to finally remove the ToolBox for my HP Color Laserjet printer to get things working well. HTH Pop` Singapore Web Design wrote: > Hello, > > Javaw.exe is used to run a Java program.
