cannary Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 I am getting messages that my Lexmark Printer is not communicating with my computer and that the spooler subsystem app has stopped working and was closed. Have been trying various suggested remedies with no luck over the past week; and hope there is some computer samaritan out there. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Hi Cannery Welcome to FPCH Have you tried uninstalling the printer in Device Manager, rebooting and then re-installing the printer software and then attaching the printer. Quote

Guest Wolfeymole Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Run a search and uninstall all instances of the Lexmark software then try again. Quote
Goku Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Cannary. :) Please perform the following steps and see if they help or not. 1. Click Start. 2. Select Run.... 3. Type services.msc in the Open: box and click OK. 4. In the corresponding Window, you will be presented with a list of services as shown below. Search for a service titled Lexbces or something similar. http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/img/16333-1.gif 5. After you have located the service, right-click on it and select Properties. 6. In the Startup type: change the preference from Automatic to Disabled. Click Apply and then OK. 7. Next, search for a service titled Print Spooler. Right-click on the service and select Properties. 8. Click on the Recovery tab and configure the settings, so that they look similar as shown in the image below. http://digital.natinst.com/public.nsf/$CXIV/ATTACH-AEEE-7592SV/$FILE/services.JPG 9. Click Apply and then OK. 10. Reboot the computer. Try to install the printer now and see if you still experience the problem or not. Good Luck. :) -- Goku Quote
cannary Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 Goku, Thanks very much for your suggestions; but having carried out your instructions and when reinstalling the Lexmark cd, I got the messages that:- 1. the print spooler had stopped and to continue installation I was to press OK and when doing this the installation stopped. I then went into services and tried to start the print spooler, but got message 2:- error 1068..... the dependency service or group failed to start. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Consider this Cannery; WikiAnswers - Why does 'Error 1068 The Dependency Service or Group Failed To Start' appear when starting the remote access auto connection manager or print spooler in Windows XP I know you have Vista but give it a whirl and get back to us. cannary Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 Spooler & Printer Problems Wolfeymole & Goku, My thanks to you both, but the saga continues.............. Lexbe Server is back to Automatic and in Started status and Print Spooler in starter status too (so far so good?) Lexmark 1200 Series was successfully installed (so Wizard said), but printer still is not communicating and when seeking it in the Control Panel it is shown as being offline and Printing Preferences are still down by a Protection Fault as already reported and on the Print Page, when entering Lexmark 1200 Series, the replies are 'no items match your search' and the file name is not valid. Guest Wolfeymole Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Again run a search for all instances of any lexmark software and remove them. Then go here and get the driver for that printer and install it. Lexmark - United States Personally I bloody hate Lexmark printers and would not have one given. Quote
RandyL Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Is this a Optra Color 1200 or a OptraImage Color 1200m ? If it is the first one there are no drivers for Vista. If it is the second one try the firmware update N2501E.ZIP from the Lexmark site. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else.
