I don't want to cause an argument, just a reminder.

John, it was Fraud. Somebody, else posed as 98 Guy. I contacted Microsoft

and they contacted the authorities. The problem now is hopefully solved.

I think this may indeed be the real 98 Guy. Microsoft removed the

fraudulent posts after I contacted them. We do want the real 98 Guy from the

past who was so helpful in using Windows 2000 patches for Internet Explorer

and applying them to Internet Explorer 6 in Windows 98 Second Edition after

unzipping them with Winzip or another program and I helped in doing this as

well. PCR will remember these days and can back up my statement. He is a

good man and he does make fun of Gary S. Terhune but hopefully I can remain

on-line friends with both of them. My goal now is to help provide

information and to help moderate this 98 general newsgroup as my time allows.

Yes, I took a Win2K .dll into here possibly on 98 Guy's suggestion. It

did seem to cause IE to behave better at a certain WEB site. I'm not

perfectly sure I still have it, though-- probably I do. I don't know

whether this 98 Guy is an impersonator or just irreparably

XP-irradiated-- but I suppose he WOULDN'T be XP-irradiated!

Actually, there is not one shred of evidence that anyone posted as 98Guy other than

himself, using altered versions of his name. He in fact admitted elsewhere that he

posted with altered versions of his name to have his posts seen by someone who may

have kill-filed his moniker. I don't know where Dan is getting this idea

from.....the fact that 98Guy was "argumentative" in some posts and not others is

certainly not evidence of someone using his identity on the groups.

The whole topic is a big waste of time......

I must sadly disagree with you glee. As someone who suffered from identity

theft twice in 2005 by having a home break in at Tucson Arizona and the theft

of my social security card at 3455 East Lester St., Tucson Arizona 85716 and

then hacking of my computer through VPN when I was connected to APS. Chris

Quirke, MVP fully explained what happened recently in August/September 2007.

In addition, my cell phone was cloned when I used it in an analog area during

the summer while heading for white water rafting and this is confirmed by

Verizon Wireless by Thom of the Albuquerque, NM store which is right near

Coronado Mall and across the street from Elephant Bar, a great restaurant.

In addition, my email was hacked through 128 bit cipher strength at

weiser_dan@aps.edu and confirmed by APS and DOD. I do volunteer testing for

Microsoft and tested Windows Vista in 2006 for security issues and am hoping

and praying that I get permission to beta test Windows Vista Service Pack 1

and XP Service Pack 3. You know identity theft is a huge problem. I knew my

APS email was being fraudulently used by the return receipts I got that I
