Do I NEED Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials KB2310138?

Today,4/11//13, I downloaded the recommended updates for Microsoft Security Essentials.  Is it necessary to also download the optional one the Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138?  It's listed as optional but I don't really

know if it is necessary to download it.  I don't know what changes it will have on the other download.  So, I'm asking you - do I NEED it?  Thank you for your time.
