Why can't I access the internet after a win 7 critical update was installed (4/10/2013)?

I needed to get to my email, I restored my system to an to an earlier date, Took care of my email and shut down the PC. It reinstalled

the update. Since I don't like the idea of uninstalling a critical update, any ideas of what is causing the problem?... Frank
