ONY Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Hiya guys/gals, i was wondering if you could help me please? I keep getting an error message: Generic Host Process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close. This happened to me a couple of days ago but after restarting my computer everything seemed ok....until today. Now everytime i go online after a few minutes this message comes up, the page goes abit funny and then no pages can be displayed. I have run the ATF cleaner and then, SuperAntiSpyware, then Malwarebytes. At first i did the quick scans, tried to update but they said "could not access as i may have a firewall blocking them".....this is not the case as i have no firewall switched on. I restarted my computer and tried again. This time only Malwarebytes managed to update...i then ran full scans with each. Malwarebytes found one item: Trojan.Downloader (c:\System Volume Information\_restore....etc,) but SuperAntiSpyware found nothing...but while i was scanning, the error message above came up again, even though i had no web pages open. I am using windows xp home edition and i use Firefox 3.0 as my browser. Any help would be much appreciated thanks. I have not downloaded anything or been on any sites that i shouldn't so im confusd as to how this has happened all of a sudden. Sorry about the long post, i have written this out beforehand as i know it would shut me down if i tried writing all this whilst on the internet. Also it keeps trying to connect to the net even though im already connected. But i cannot disconnect from the icons at bottom of screen, i have to shut computer down. Tootech Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Hi ONY It seems like you still have some malware on your PC. Can you startup in Safe Mode with Networking, try to update SAS and run a full scan. Also, can you continue and run the ESET online scan if possible. You will need to use Internet Explorer for that one. Is your PC up to date with all of the Microsoft updates - if not, again can you do that. What security do you normally use ? Also it keeps trying to connect to the net even though im already connected. But i cannot disconnect from the icons at bottom of screen, i have to shut computer down. Can you post a little more info about the trying to connect bit - what is the 'it'? There's alot of things to check there, just want to get those out of the way so we know excatly where we are. Quote
ONY Posted November 23, 2008 Author Posted November 23, 2008 Hiya Tootech, thanks for the quick reply, so far i have had to restart the computer only once since posting this thread. I use Spyware terminator as my real time protection. Have done for a couple of years now and it works just fine. I also perform the scans recommended on here weekly. As for connecting to the internet, i have no problem. It's just that error message has started coming up and then refusing to display pages which means i have to restart my computer and start again. I havent done the Eset scan yet but will do so. I just dont understand why this is happening all of a sudden. As for asking me to connect to the internet whilst im already online: well that has only happened a few times after i get that error message and try to bring up a web page. But disconnecting is also a problem as i can only do so by shutting the computer down. I'll go do the Eset scan now, then should i be updating windows or Firefox? By the way, why in safe mode?....as at the moment im online ok...sorry if that sounds thick. Many thanks for your help, Ony Quote Welcome to Free PC Help. Need help with your computer problems? RandyL Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Hi ONY; c:\System Volume Information\_restore would be System Restore. Once you're sure the computer is clean you should disable and enable System Restore. This will clear all your restore points but also delete the traces of that Trojan.
