  1. I have this problem with my Acer Laptop. I bought it brand new with Windows * pre-installed and  no DVD with Windows 8 to try and repair it.
What happens is: from time to time, after certain windows updates complete the Windows dies instantly and shows an error: "Windows has encountered an error and shut down to prevent any damages. Press any key to restart. "When I press any key as it says, another error comes up and says: "Sorry, no boot device found! Retry!"
I retry and I get the same error message forever. If I really want to use the laptop I have to restart manually from the power button. But all my open pages, files and folders and all the unsaved work are gone and I have to start over. How can I fix this? Thanks.
