Hi,

I'm trying to connect the front panel audio wires to the motherboard so I can plug a headset/mic in the front rather than reaching round the back.

The Motherboard is an Asrock K7VM2, which lists 7 pins as :

http://www.asrock.com/manual/K7VM2%20R3.0.pdf

GND, +5VA, BACKOUT-R, BACKOUT-L, MIC, MIC_POWER, AUD-OUT-R & AUD-OUT-L.

The wires from the front audio panel (unbranded case) are :

green - mic R

black - gnd

yellow - R in

purple - R out

purple - L out

red- L in

black - gnd

orange - mic L

Anyone got any idea which is what ?

Thanks

Martin.

according to that manual you linked, your motherboard has the front Panel audio socket containing 9 pins, but as to shed some light on the problem you'd have to wait for someone else :P Just thought I'd try before it went down incase it was urgent.

But that IS confusing. the most obvious ones are the GND as both have 2 of those. The mic R and L I don't understand, thats about all the help I can give :( Sorry, wait for someone else to come along later :P

I'm good at stating the obvious :D

That is for the CD/DVD or Aux internal Audio, the front panel audio has 9 pins and is shown at the top of page 16. It has a microphone and headphone socket on the front panel.

Anyone have any idea ?

Martin.

I dont understand which ones cant you do - they are self explanatory

Black are GND (Ground)

With the picture that you supplied and the wire descriptions you supplied you just need to match them up

Your board is AC97 audio, there is also HD Audio out there with a different set of connections. Some cases come with an AC97/HD Audio connector.

Yours is a little confusing.

It looks like AC97, but has two mic input's - Mic L, and Mic R, just as HD Audio has. But Apart from that is looks like AC97 wiring.

If you look at your mobo wiring diagram, there are 2 grounds - same as the case - that's those sorted.

The mobo Audio out -R and L are your left and right speaker outputs.

The mobo backout -R/L are the speaker return connections.

The unknowns for me are the case in/out definitions. R-In/R-Out. They will probably work either way, but I would guess R-Out should be connected to Mobo-Audio Out -R, and R-In to mobo Backout-R.

Same for left channel.

Don't know about the Mic, will have to have a look around.

Was there a paper diagram came with your case to help with the wiring?

No the case is a few years old - there was no diagram. I'll have a try tonight.
