windows 7 won't shut down properly because it is waiting for download manage (not manager) to close

HP G60 530us notebook

It says "waiting for download manage,  This program is preventing windows from closing."  (it's saying manage, not manager)  

I think this started after I did my first back up onto a memory stick or when I downloaded Java.    I had never downloaded  a Java previously.  I went into my programs and started removing a lot of programs.  I  have always shut down my computer by clicking

on shutdown.  I've never left it  in sleep mode.  Never heard of that term before.  Now my computer won't shut off unless I hit the actual button to turn it on.
