Guest Rocky Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Hi, I have a new windows 2003( r2 sp2) domain called engineering.lan. It consists of 1 domain controller and one member server named prodserver which is the member of the new domain. Prodserver has the file server role with all the company's shares on it. All desktop computers are on the domain and can access resources on prodserver. The problem is that we have notebooks which are in a workgroup called engineering. Notebook users have the same account name and password as that of their domain account however they are prompted to enter their credentials every time they try to access a share on prodserver. I have double checked that the notebook workgroup, the user's account and passwords exactly match that of the domain, but I can't get the notebooks to access the resources on prodserver with the users being prompted to enter their credentials. In the previous domain, the resources were located on the domain controller and all notebooks could access resources without any prompts for credentials. Does anyone have a solution for this problem? I can pass up the notebook user's credentials using a batch file with the "net use \\prodserver\ipc$ /user:engineering\username password" but would rather prefer a simpler solution. Thanks for any comments and assistance. John

Are you 100% sure that the NetBIOS name of the domain, and the workgroup name, are identical (i.e., they're both ENGINEERING) ? Even if you get this to work, it's always going to be clumsy, honestly. All the workstations really ought to belong to the domain. Workgroups offer no security, you can't centrally manage these laptops, etc. > Does anyone have a solution for this > problem? Why not to your custom user data shares? > /user:engineering\username > password" but would rather prefer a simpler solution. Even if you must keep this config for some reason (pointy haired boss?) don't put their passwords in plain text in a batch file. > > Thanks for any comments and assistance. > > John
