Guest Terry Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 When I boot it asks which copy I want to boot from - I want to remove the 'extra' installation. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.
Guest matt hopkins Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Re: I inadvertantely installed 2 copies of XP on the C drive?! What you would need to do is open the msdos.sys and change the BOOTMULTI=1 to BOOTMULTI=0 the 0 flag disables the Multiple boot option. Here is the Microsoft knowledgebase article on the msdos.sys file: MSDOS.SYS (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q118/5/79.asp&NoWebContent=1) summit i found on the web when i did the same. or you can just reinstall xp "Terry" <Terry@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CAE69F71-2B69-48D4-B52F-33668C26AB4C@microsoft.com... > When I boot it asks which copy I want to boot from - I want to remove the > 'extra' installation. You are probably thinking of the System Configuration Utility since the program to run this is msconfig. Start>Run>msconfig [enter] Click on the Boot.ini tab and then the button to check boot paths. Or open boot.ini in Notepad and edit it. Answers and illustrations here: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/xpfaq.html The OP should look at Items 19, 20, and 22 depending on his situation.
