Guest MooseWizard Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Server 2003, no SP. AD No Specific Event Log entries No Application errors, they just hang. After an in-place upgrade on a DC from 2000 to 2003, no installs that use update.exe will run. I tried installing SP2, but it hangs at Inspecting Computer. I tried running windows update, but it hangs at "Checking for the latest updates for your computer." Another strange symptom is that there are no shortcuts to Active Directory components in the Administrator Tools menu. However, I can get to them by launching MMC, then adding the AD snap-ins. All accounts are present, and all services seem to be running correctly. I just cannot install anything! There is a KB regarding administrators having debug permissions, and I have already explored that with no results.
Guest MooseWizard Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 Re: Update.exe hangs Partially fixed now. Am able to install updates, including SP2 which was downloaded from the Download Center and not through Windows Update, by following these instructions I found elsewhere: 1) Close all IE Windows 2) Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Delete Temporary Internet Files 3) Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Services -> Stop the "Automatic Updates" service 4) Delete everything in "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore" 5) Delete everything in "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" 6) Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Services -> START the "Automatic Updates" service On Oct 5, 9:19 am, MooseWizard <moosewiz...@gmail.com> wrote: > Server 2003, no SP. > AD > No Specific Event Log entries > No Application errors, they just hang. > > After an in-place upgrade on a DC from 2000 to 2003, no installs that > use update.exe will run.
