I tried what I considered to be a routine upgrade on a 2003 std server w/sp2

to 2003 r2. The response was that the current installation version is newer

than the 2003 r2. Is there a possibility to upgrade or is this a migration

issue?

thx

basically you do not need to update, because: Windows Server 2003 R2 is just

Windows Server 2003 SP1 ( and some features that become available through

the add remove programs. for those to be available: put in the second cd of

R2, and run the setup.

so SP2 is newer than R2.

Re: upgrade 2003 std to 2003 std r2

Windows 2003 R2 is a 2 CD set. Depending on which set you have, CD 1 is

either Win 2k3 SP1 or Win 2k3 SP2. The second CD is the R2 components. If

you use the R2 components from a R2 CD set that the first CD is Win 2k3 SP1,

on a server with SP 2, that component CD is going to see the current install

as newer.

You need to use the R2 components CD from an R2 set where the first CD is

Win 2k3 SP2.
