MSTSC becomes resource hog

I have a Windows XP (SP2) Tablet Edition on a Fuijitsu T4010 in my office on

which I keep RDP sessions open to 4-5 servers. I use RDP 6.

Recently I have traced some excessive resource usage to the mstsc.exe

program using task manager.

One time one of the instances of mstsc.exe was using 600 MB of the PC's

memory. I have observed this behavior at other prior times as well. I

applied 907572.

After the 907572 patch one instance had accumulated a million page faults in

about a day elapsed time! I have not seen this before and believe it may be

related to the patch.

A cure is to terminate the problem session with task manager and then

reconnect to the session. The new mstsc.exe instance is normal - at least

at the outset.

Obviously there is a bug of some kind. Does anyone also see this problem?

Googling for "page faults" and mstsc was not much help.

Hi,

this is maybe a BUG with RDP 6.0 > KB907572 is not for RDP 6.0

09-Sep-2005 5.1.2600.2756 Mstscax.dll > RDP 5.1 / RDP 5.2

cheers,

Ismail
