Low disk space on Drive C

I am getting the "low disk space" message on drive C and have used disk cleanup with minimal results. It shows 1.04 GB in "Tempory Files" but although this box is checked this space is not freed. There is 55.6 GB on drive C and only 500 MB free. I have

about 2 GB in program files so what other than Windows Vista is using the remaining 50 GB?
