Windows couldn't check for updates automatically, not since December 2012.  Am afraid to do the clean boot for fear of losing any system restore point.  When check for windows update it gives me the dreaded 800F080D.  Automatic updates are turned on.

I have heard of the dll addresses being messed up, that may be my case, not sure.  You can't call anyone to walk you through anything anymore...  sort of scared to do it myself.

I ran the sfc/scannow  didn't find anything wrong.  Ran a Microsoft Fixit and it couldn't find anything.

I ran something else (can't remember what) and it said:

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name:  APPCRASH

Application Name:       SearchProtection.exe       Version 1.0.14.0    Timestamp 5092b144

Fault Module Name:    SearchProtection.exe       Version 1.0.14.0    Timestamp 5092b144

Exception Code:  c0000005          Exception Offset:  00037a2c

OS Version:        6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3

Locale ID:  1033

Additional Information 1:    0a9e

Additional Information 3:    0a9e

Additional Information 4:    0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

I would like to find this SearchProtection.exe and fix it.  If that is the problem

What I'm running:

MS Windows 7 Home Premium      X86 based pc                32 bit system      Service pack1

Thank you.
