Windows activation not working

I've had Windows 8 since the day it was released.  Just yesterday I purchased Windows Media player online for $10.  Ever since that every time I turn on my computer it says something about "Windows activation is ready" and I don't even know what it is. 

But, whether I do it on the Metro setting or control panel on the Desktop view, the Windows Activation does not work.

 

First I would like to know what this "Windows Activation" is, and why it is not working?
