How do I get updates to configure?

Dell Inspiron

W7 professional, factory installed

 

 I have spent days installing 64 updates one by one and there are 8 more plus SP-1 that fail to configure.  Why is Windows 7 such a problem and why doesn't MS fix it...I have seen many comments from others having this problem...
