windows vista updates KB2511455, KB2536276, KB978338 & KB978886 failing

For the last few months my Acer laptop has been failing on Windows Vista updates:KB2511455 - Error code: 8007371BKB2536276 - Error code: 8007371BKB978338 - Error code: 80073701KB978886 - Error code: 80070490The main issue that I've noticed since these updates have been failing is the disappearance of the CD/DVD drive. My laptop does not recognize any CD's or DVD's I put in the drive and the drive does not show in my computer.I have Windows Vista Premium.Any help would be much appreciated.ThanksStephen
