File Extension Changer

[Guest SANTANDER]

Could anyone recommend handy File Extension Changer utility, to change files

extension? Renaming manually via enable 'Hide file extensions for known

file types' option in 'Folder Options' menu is not very convenient since if

then whenever we want to rename a certain file, we will always have to

include the extension for it, or else we will get a warning prompt.

One of the boxes at / View / Folder Options / View

can be conveniently checked so that all file extensions

become visible. This enables changing extensions

via / File / Rename.

 

Bulk alterations can be made in a DOS box e.g.

d:\DOX> REN *.RTF *.TXT

If unfamiliar with DOS you can.

1. Back up files beforehand to C:\temp

2. Check DOS parameters with /? e.g.

REN /?

to list parameters of the REName function.

"Hide file extensions for known file types" should be DISABLED

ALWAYS.

 

As for changing extensions and/or any/everything else, get a

file renamer utility (there are lots, most free) or get a real

file manager like the one from http://www.ghisler.com

Over the years I have tried at least 20 file managers, starting

with XTree (DOS, a GREAT program, works FINE under 95 and 98

except for LFN) to various "improvements" over WE which is

nothing but a sadistic torture device designed to let you do the

least possible with the most amount of hassle.

 

The main thing about Total Commander is that it has two panes so

you know exactly what you are doing all the time, and you don't

have to use the mouse which slows you down a LOT.

 

Most essential functions can be achieved with one or two key

presses and it is totally programmable to the extent you can't

even imagine. The screenshot it ugly as hell but don't let that

put you off. It's totally customizable. It has extra

functionality built in which will astound you.

 

DL and try it, it will work forever in the demo mode, but I

bought it. When something is THAT good, it deserves to be paid

for.

I think BING may fall under that category of being paid for as well because

it is so good.
