I have a laptop with the following specs:

OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

Service Pack Level: SP1

RAM: 16GB

Proc: i7 2.5GHz

HDD: 500GB

I am attempting to use Windows Virtual PC as sort of a training lab; installing many different operating systems from desktop systems to servers.  I am doing this to prepare for the MCTS certification exam which includes a lot of different installation,

upgrade, and troubleshooting methods.

Unfortunately, I have recently run into an issue that Microsoft "Pro" support is claiming they have never seen and Microsoft online chat support is saying is not their responsibility; they also try and send me to VMWare tech support to troubleshoot Windows

Virtual PC.  I have also completed my own research on the issue and have found a nightmare waiting.

I installed Windows 7 Pro x86 on a fresh VM.  Once the Out Of Box Experience was completed and I logged into Windows, the Processor almost immediately shot to 100% and held there; eight hours later there was no change.  After some investigation into the

system, I found the root of this was wuauserv, Windows Update Service.  Once I shut down Windows Update Service, Proc usage immediately dropped to 4% and remained steady; I turn it back on and it shoots right up to 100% again.  I tried deleting and reinstalling

the OS and the VM entirely, I have run all kinds of file scans, and even held a gathering where we sacrificed a goat to the Gods of Windows; nothing has worked.

Since Microsoft is no help to this point, can anyone give me assistance?  I have found a KB article to fix this in Windows XP SP2, and one for XP SP3, but nothing for Windows 7.

Thanks everyone.
