Hi,I have a Dell laptop with Windows XP SP3 pre-installed (On C: Drive). Years later, I installed Windows 7 Pro on the D: Drive and currently have them both.

Since a few days, my XP wouldn't start due to an error in the registry leaving me with Windows 7 as the only working windows. I have decided it's time to get rid of Windows XP and replace it with Windows 8.1 and I have already bought the

installation CD.  However, I have a few concerns:

  • Can I just upgrade Windows XP SP3 to Windows 8.1 instead of a
clean installation? (i.e. Can I keep files, settings or any apps?)
  • In case of a clean installation and having to wipe the C Drive, will this affect Windows 7 Pro which is installed on the
D Drive? (I once read that some of the Operating System installed on D exist on the operating system installed on the C drive as well).
  • Considering that I cannot log in to the XP [i receive a blue screen], how should I run the installation of Windows 8.1? Should I do it at the start up of BIOS? Or Should I do it from inside Windows 7 Pro (By double click on the .EXE file)?

Thank You.

With Regards,

Yousef
