Attempting to start up my Dell computer which has not been used for some time and has Windows XP - after Dell logo screen goes to black and has message

"Invalid Boot Diskette - Insert Boot Diskette in A:_"  have been unable to get past this - have also tried going to F8 for Safe Mode start with same result.
