Guest Roman B. Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I have a windows 2003 server. One of the files on a shared volume was "overwritten" with another file with the same name. Is there any way to recover the original overwritten file. I found some info about SHADOW VOLUME COPY but it does not appear to be enabled on the server. I have found many programs for recovering deleted files but nothing for recovering overwritten files. Anyone know of third party solutions Any help is much appreciated. Thanks Roman
Guest Dave Patrick Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Re: Recovering Overwritten Files If the disk space was overwritten then you're probably hosed. You might have a slim chance if you immediately stopped using the drive and are willing to box it up to send of to one of the drive recovery specialists. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest Ryan Hanisco Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 Re: Recovering Overwritten Files I agree, A data recovery service might be your only real option and you would have had to stop using the drive for this not to be horribly expensive. (yes, they can sometimes recover overwrites.) This really points to changing your practice in the future to include things like Shadow Copy and a well-planned backup strategy. Unfortunately, that doesn't help the current situation. -- Ryan Hanisco MCSE, MCTS: SQL 2005, Project+ http://www.techsterity.com Chicago, IL Remember: Marking helpful answers helps everyone find the info they need quickly.
