Hello Devlin

Welcome to FPCH

Does it do this on every boot up and if so how long has it been doing this?

Sounds to me like it's nearly dead.

Hi The pc has been in a spare room most of the autumn and the last time I used it it was fine, I went out about an hour ago to do some work and came back in and it started up with an error message: bad battery , check sum. with options on startup safe mode etc I clicked on normal start and it seemed fine I then went out again and on my return it was off and the wholething was hot the fan is not running so I might take it out and test it from a direct supply, I think maybe the pc had got damp lying around is that a possibility I am waiting for it to cool down if I can find a hair drier I might coolit with that ( on cool setting no heat ) but any ideas will help

If you got a checksum error then most likely the motherboard battery has died and on laptops are evil to replace.

It also sounds like the fan has died so that needs either cleaning if it's clogged or replacing if dead.

lo again

Got back in and tried afew things but now nothing happens when I try to start up the power light now goes out and flashes amber till I remove the battery Can you tell if the fan runs constant or is it heat activated

The fan will run constantly upon bootup.

It may well be that you need a new main battery as well as motherboard battery.

Any half decent pc repair shop should be able to sell you one Dev or go to Tosh themselves, probably cost you a lot more though.

Don't bother, as a new cmos battery isn't going to help the electrical problem.

Does the electrical problem occur without the battery? Without the AC/DC adapter?

Hi all

been busy at work and not been around for a few days

any way Iam about to give up on this laptop as I cannot seem to get any where with it right now I suspect the fan, 3 wires red black brown 3volt I need to prove the fan one way or other any ides which wires are the supply and what would the third do, if the fan proves to be dud then I will replace it if not then I need to check for supply voltage on start up, should I remove the cpu for this as the voltage check could take some time given the size of the terminals and with a combination of three to check. any help or suggestions welcome
