windows 8 Continuous Internet activity/hard disk activity since Windows Update

Hello MS Community,

 

Please can anyone let me know if they are having the same problems as I am experiencing, and if there is a fix?

 

Since a Windows Update in the first half of May my laptop(s) are constantly dipping in to the internet and hard disk. I know it is accessing the internet, as when I turn wireless off the activity ceases.

 

 

Concerned about what is being transmitted and hard disk wear.

 

I am fully virus protected and have run a few malware scans, but nothing comes up.

 

I have got 2 laptops being affected by this. I am not a technical person so don't know where to start, apart from pay some exorbitant amount to PC World to fix it!

 

Please can anyone shed some light on this.
