windows 8 Using External separate Amplifiers and Projector to show 'film'

I am using an Asus Computer running Windows 8

 

I need to show a net-cast broadcast over the internet using a projector for the Image and a separate amplifier for sound.

 

During tests, sound and vision show well on the laptop. Plugging the sound into the amplifier works - I have sound through the external speakers (only - not on the laptop which is fine). When I attach the Projector with an HDMI cable, the image is shown

on screen as well as the laptop - BUT the sound stops - no sound either on the laptop or the external speakers.

 

What changes to the settings do I need to make (presumably when hooked up to the projector and amplifier)
