For no apparent reason we receive the validation error message, even though the software is genuine and was activated several years ago. Plenty of posts here how to fix that, until Microsoft can figure out why the software has a bug. My concern is that

a security conscious company like Microsoft, as demonstrated by the UEFI secure boot/driver/hardware initiative would present end users with an application that looks like it could be a potential virus. Why is the app legitcheck.hta unsigned, or am I looking

at a possible Crypto-Locker attempt on my computer?

I could go ahead and click it, but if its a virus, I could be looking at a 6 hour or more Ransom-Ware cleanup with the click of a button. To a trained IT professional, this is a "Red Wire - "Green Wire?" decision point. Perhaps an oversight at Microsoft

or is this "by design"

How can I tell if your legitcheck.hta is legit?
