Guest Link Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I recently switched from Linux Ubuntu 7.04 to Windows XP on my Desktop computer. I believe my motherboard has a built in network thing, that aligns with the back of my computer. My internet (directed through a router) worked fine on Linux, and prior to that fine on Windows XP. However, now I go to Network Connections and there are no connections. I have tried all my re/installing all my drivers, powering down, reconnecting the mobo, and re/installing Windows XP numerous times. I would be led to assume it was my mobo, however, it worked fine half an hour prior to installing Windows XP on Ubuntu and nothing happened to the computer in that time.
Guest Andrew E. Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 RE: XP Not Detecting Internet Connection If all connections are ok,& the software & chipset software has been installed thru the oem software (intel, amd, etc) as this is required, try power off pc,remove battery, locate & move the CMOS pin from 1-2 to 2-3 for .30 seconds or so,then back to 1-2,replace battery, start pc.On start-up,you'll need to reset BIOS,as this resets it to as it came from factory (updates are unaffected). Guest Link Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 RE: XP Not Detecting Internet Connection I don't know if this helps (thanks for the advice by the way) but when I went to play a game I recently installed (Age of Empires 3), it said I had a 0 mb graphics card (when I have a 256). So it does mean it's my motherboard? When I went to install its drivers (MachSpeed MK8-939A), I received errors installing such as, "Hardware not found on this computer.". If it is in fact my mobo, how is my computer even running? Well, since the computer is a laptop, I think it can change things. First of all, for which OS your laptop designed for? Actually I think that any driver worked with Linux should "almost definitely" work with Windows. Maybe your laptop does not designed for winxp. I don't think so, but there is a possibility. Also, it is obvious that your graphic card is not accepted by the computer, so try to install the driver again. But there is no connection between the internet and graphic card. See if Windows sees your modem. Right Click My Computer Select Properties Go to Hardware thing, and go to Device Manager. It would say Network Adapters at least. See if you can find anything about the modem. I hope you won't. If you can't, that means you cannot install your drivers; and take your laptop to the service. If laptop is designed for windows, either it is screwed up, or you couldn't install them.
Guest Link Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 Re: XP Not Detecting Internet Connection It's not actually a laptop, it's a desktop PC which has run Windows XP fine about a month ago. I assume there must be some sort of problem detecting my motherboard, since it can't find my graphics card either - but again, how would my computer run if it didn't detect the motherboard?
Guest Bob I Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 Re: XP Not Detecting Internet Connection For lack of a bettert term, it's in "generic mode". Until you install the correct hardware drivers, you will have nothing but grief. So, how was this PC set up when you bought it. With XP? If so, then go locate all the CD's that came with it and reload them.
