Cannot install Windows 8.1

I am trying to upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1. I try to download the app from the Windows store and instead of installing it says

"This app wasn't installed - view details." When I click on details it says

"Windows is getting your Windows 8.1 upgrade ready. You will automatically be prompted to install Windows 8.1 soon. You can continue to use your PC in the meantime." Windows 8 came pre-installed on my laptop. All Windows updates are up to

date and I have temporarily turned off my anti-virus. Any help would be appreciated.
