If someone sends another a large email,

Is there anyway the receiver can avoid /bypass the download?

or are you tied to receive it?

If using Outlook Express, you can set up a "rule" to delete

from server, emails greater than a certain size.

Tools > Message Rules > Mail > New.. > etc..

There's also a way to view them (as text) / delete them using Telnet

without actually downloading them. (old school and more work)

Get a program like MailWasher that lists the Emails waiting on your server. You can then, for each

email, tell it to delete the ones you don't want. Then click Process and the rest of them are

brought up in your normal email program.

I use AT&T Worldnet as my browser home page. It has an option tab <E-Mail>

where I can view, delete, or mark as Spam and delete, before sending it to my

computer. Your server might have a similar option. I prefer it to MailWasher.

Thanks Bill, and Galen.

I thought I had been attacked by spam,

it turns out a friend sent me a movie, without warning.

I shall, however employ the "rule" solution,

I have used mailwasher but do not feel

the need to go that far in this instance.

It would depend on the email program you're using. With Pegasus

(http://www.pmail.com) it's easy to see what's on the server, and select

letters to delete or download.
