missing Dll file:shfolder.dll

I have tried installing from the link the shfolder.dll

When I open, unzip the file and try to install it to folder:

C:/windows/system or tp C:/windows/temp it tells me that 4 files are

unzipped. Whatever that means. However, when I restart Windows or try to

download some software (especially music or photo related, the error message

for the missing DLL file returns?????????

I don't know from what link you downloaded the file, but do this instead:

Download the ShFolder redistributable from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=6AE02498-07E9-48F1-A5D6-DBFA18D37E0F

Save the download to your desktop.

When downloaded, double-click the downloaded file, named shfinst.exe

It will extract shfolder.exe to your Temp folder

Now, go to your temp folder by clicking Start>Run, and typing:

%temp%

|Click OK|

In the Temp folder window, double-click shfolder.exe, and follow the prompts.

What is the error message?

If you are getting an error message about SHGetfolderPathA then

re-installing that DLL won't help - you need to get a version of the program

that is compatible with Windows 98. In your case, that may be whatever

program is being used to do the download.

If the file you are downloading is a ZIP or EXE file then you should be able

to copy it to the \windows\system folder and unzip it to the current folder.

That's all that's needed to install the DLL, but it may not fix your

problem.
