Oh well couple of days late responding.

Just curious Bill,I was about to undertake a EE, and got married instead.

Obviously long-range plans aren't my forte. Just kidding, I have the utmost

respect and admiration for women.

What was your main area of discipline? I used to be quite a ham operator,

and RF still fascinates the heck out of me

You can read *all* the books you want, author them even, but antenna theory

has far too many variables to ever relegate it to a science, it will always

be any art, unless you start talking Very High Powered Microwaves, and even

then you better not has the slightest burr on the inside of the

waveguide<OMIGOSH>.

Where is you level of expertise in??

It was E & M theory in college (but that was ages ago). It was almost

physics-like in its concepts, but not quite as theoretical and abstract as

what they (the physicists)study and do. Physicists can be *very*

theoretically oriented. :-)

At this point (in semi-retirement)? I'd say, teaching electronics to

college students. But I haven't been working there for a bit, so who

knows.

I used to be a ham radio operator, too (starting back in the 60's), but gave

up the hobby when it essentially became profilerated with "appliance

operators", and the whole "radio technology" and electronics aspect of the

hobby basically vanished.

Hi Glee,

I graduated in '71. Really you cannot tell a person's age by the date

he/she graduated. I had quit school at an early age and after I came to my

senses, I went back and graduated HS. You need the birth date.

Heh....I got married in May of 1973. It lasted 6 years. Since then I've just had

"girlfriends" though the current one has lasted 16 years so far, minus a couple of

years break a few years back.

Re: <PING> Bill in Colo.

Hi Glee,

I got married on June 24, 1950. The Korean War started then. We were

driving somewhere at midnight. We heard about the declared war. I tell

people, " We got married and started a war!.

I started dating while in high school also. I never skipped a grade

neither. I left and then returned.

Correction: You need to know the date of birth in order to determine

age. ( I do not think my parents would have approved of me having a date

when I was born).

I have had dates on my birthday. <s>

I thought I was the oldie on this group, being born in the 40's.

So you have (presumably) witnessed even more changes in society than I have!

(and I feel many of them ... are not so good, if you know what I mean).

"We have nothing to fear except fear itself...."

I'm not so sure about that. :-)

Speaking of security, I find it amusing that everything nowadays seems to be

done in the name of security. You don't think a George Orwell 1984 is around

Well then you've really witnessed the "changes" even more than I have!

Not really.... :-)

But if you know an amateur radio call sign you can get all kinds of

personal information thru the ARRL and FCC. Name, age, address to

name some. It's much worse than providing a valid e-mail address in

a public forum.
