Tab Issues

Hi all,

I am not sure which catagory this question belongs in, so pardon me if Im

sending it to the wrong

group...

My problem is this: My TAB button on my keyboard will not move my cursor.

For example, when signing into my Yahoo email, I'll input my username, and

then press the tab button to move the cursor down so I can put in my

password, but it will not move.

Yet if I am on a regular webpage, the tab button will function just fine.

I thought it was a keyboard problem, even though every other function worked

just fine..I went and

purchased a new keyboard anyway.

But I am still having the same problem, so it cannot be the keyboard. I

didnt always have this problem, it just

started maybe 2 months ago or so...but its darn annoying.

Anyone have any idea of why it's doing this? Any settings that I can alter

or is there something I may have altered that I shouldnt have?

Thanks in advance!

Tarcia,

What happens if you use Return rather than Tab? Does the problem exist on

all web log in pages or just Yahoo! e-mail? Unfortunately I don't have a

Yahoo account so can't try to replicate the problem.

Re: Tab Issues

You can replicate it on your Gmail....as it does it to me on there also.

It does it on all web log in pages.

If I press the Return button,it will "enter" the information, or activate it

just as if I had clicked the "sign in" button or a "submit" button.

On Gmail, I enter my username, and then when I press the Tab button, it will

not move down to the Password box, it will instead highlight the little box

next to the "remember me on this computer" and if I press it again, it will

highlight the "sign in" button.

Avant is a front end for Internet Explorer so it isn't really surprising

that you are seeing the same problem when using Avant as when using IE.

I'm not sure what to suggest but would start by running an Internet

Explorer Repair which amongst other things re-registers many of the dll

files used by IE and this may just fix the problem.

To repair Internet Explorer. Either use Add/Remove Programs, Select IE6

and click Remove and then select Repair from the menu. If IE6 does not

appear in Add/Remove programs repairing is a little more complicated and

you need to use Start | Run and in the box type (all as one line):

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE5Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet

Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\Windows\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"

Keep the spaces (after ll32, ance, Program, rnet, EXE", /g, \IE and tall)

and also the quote marks. Now click OK and follow the prompts.

This can be done from Safe Mode.

See MS KB 194177 - "Description of the Internet Explorer Repair tool"

(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=194177). This article also applies to

IE6 although not mentioned in the article.

I dunno, but that seems to be a very minor issue and I just tried to

replicate it on GMail with my XP. Why not just use your mouse to put

the "cursor" in the password box, tell it to remember you, and not worry

about it until you get the other things sorted out.

Unless I have misread what you are saying, but I don't think so.

Cheers....Heather

Re: Tab Issues

I do use the mouse to put the cursor in the password box since I have no

choice anyway..I have some things set to remember me..not all..

It is a minor issue compared to other things that could be wrong..

but it's still annoying...and just plain strange that it started doing that.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools.

903235 and 916281 are two patches, 903235 patching a vulnerability in the

JView Profiler that was released in July 2005 and 916281 the last

cumulative update for IE6 SP1 that was released in June 2006.
